PUNE: A 29-year-old woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly strangling her husband, Nakul Ananda Bhoir (40), during a violent altercation at their home on Link Road in Chinchwad. After the incident, the accused, Chaitali Bhoir, reportedly called the police herself to confess to the crime.
According to Inspector Deepak Gosavi of Chinchwad police station, Nakul Bhoir was a social worker known for assisting local residents with civic issues and was also associated with the Maratha Kranti Morcha.
Police said Chaitali was preparing to contest the upcoming civic elections, with Nakul actively supporting her campaign. “They had even put up banners and flexboards across the city featuring both their photographs,” Gosavi said.
Frequent Fights Over Suspicions of Infidelity
Investigators revealed that the couple often fought over Nakul’s suspicions of his wife’s alleged infidelity. “Late Thursday night, another argument broke out between them, which escalated into a physical fight that lasted till early Friday morning,” Gosavi said.
During the altercation, Chaitali allegedly overpowered her husband, grabbed a piece of cloth, and strangled him around 4 am. Their two young children, aged five and two, were asleep in another room throughout the incident, police added.
Arrest and Custody
Following her confession, police arrested Chaitali under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She was produced before a local court on Friday afternoon and remanded in police custody till October 26.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the sequence of events leading up to the fatal confrontation.
