KIRYAT GAT (Israel): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that a growing team of American diplomats and military officers will work together at a newly established Civil-Military Coordination Center in southern Israel to oversee the ceasefire in Gaza.
Speaking during a visit to the facility in Kiryat Gat, Rubio said the center would play a key role in ensuring both sides adhere to the truce agreement. “There are going to be ups and downs, twists and turns, but we have a lot of reason for optimism about the progress being made,” he said.
Rubio added that the Trump administration was considering seeking a United Nations mandate for an international peacekeeping force to operate in parts of Gaza — a move aimed at maintaining stability and supporting post-conflict recovery.
Palestinian Factions Agree on Technocrat Committee for Gaza
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Palestinian political factions, including Hamas, announced on Friday that they had reached a consensus to transfer administrative control of post-war Gaza to an independent committee of technocrats.
In a joint statement, the factions said the committee would “manage day-to-day affairs and basic services” in Gaza and called for a meeting of all Palestinian forces and parties to “agree on a national strategy and revitalise the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole representative of the Palestinian people.”
The announcement marks a potential step toward political reconciliation and institutional rebuilding in Gaza, amid ongoing international efforts to stabilize the region following months of devastating conflict.
