Dehradun: A cloudburst on Thursday wreaked havoc in Chamoli district, toppling six buildings under heavy debris in Kuntari Lagafali ward of Nagar Panchayat Nandanagar. At least 10 people are reported missing.

Rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and district administration were rushed to the site, while the CMO deployed a medical team and three 108 ambulances. Officials said operations are being monitored closely, with rescue work continuing on a war footing amid fears more victims may be trapped.

Of the missing, eight are from Kuntari Lagafali — Kunwar Singh (42), his wife Kanta Devi (38), their twin sons Vikas and Vishal (10), Narendra Singh (40), Jagdamba Prasad (70), Bhaga Devi (6), and Deveshwari Devi (65). In Dhurma, Guman Singh (75) and Mamta Devi (38) are unaccounted for.

The disaster comes just two days after cloudbursts and heavy overnight rain devastated several parts of Uttarakhand, leaving 15 dead, 16 missing, and nearly 900 stranded. Dehradun recorded the highest toll with 13 deaths, while Nainital and Pithoragarh reported one each. Despite relentless rainfall, NDRF, SDRF, and fire services evacuated almost all those stranded.

Authorities warned of rising river levels across the state. In Dehradun, the Tons (Tamsa) River swelled dangerously, flooding the Tapkeshwar Temple and submerging its iconic Hanuman statue — a water level not seen in over 20 years, according to the temple priest.
