NEW DELHI: A terrorist was killed during an overnight encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, the Army said on Wednesday.
The operation began late Tuesday night after intelligence inputs indicated suspicious movement in the Arhama area. Acting on the information, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, according to officials.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said troops on the ground observed unusual activity during the search. When challenged, the suspect opened fire, prompting security forces to retaliate.
The Army said the cordon was tactically reorganised amid intermittent firing, and troops responded in a calibrated manner, leading to the killing of one terrorist.
Officials added that the anti-terror operation is still ongoing, with security forces continuing to comb the area for any additional threats.
