BENGALURU: A tragic incident unfolded in north Bengaluru’s Kothanur area, where a 32-year-old IT professional was found dead in his apartment, followed by his wife’s suicide just minutes later, police said.

According to officials, the woman had returned from Hyderabad early in the morning and grew concerned when her husband did not respond to repeated calls or open the bedroom door. Around 7:30am, she alerted apartment security, who broke open the door and found him hanging from a ceiling fan. A note was recovered from the room.

Police said the man had previously worked in the United States but lost his job last year amid layoffs linked to automation trends. Since returning to India, he had been searching for employment and was reportedly dealing with financial strain, health concerns, and anxiety.

Roughly 20 minutes after the discovery, the woman, who worked with a multinational company, left the apartment unnoticed, went up to the 18th floor of the building, and jumped. She died on the spot.

The couple, originally from Telangana, had been married for over two years and had moved to Bengaluru about eight months ago following the woman’s job relocation. Investigators said the marriage had not been disclosed to her family, which may have contributed to personal challenges earlier.

Police are continuing their investigation, focusing on the contents of the note and the couple’s recent circumstances. Preliminary findings indicate the man had been under significant stress due to unemployment and related pressures in recent months.
