NEW DELHI: A man was killed and another injured after a speeding crane towing a portable toilet rammed into their motorcycles in southeast Delhi’s New Friends Colony area, police said on Friday.
The driver of the crane, identified as Sachin Kumar (22), has been arrested.
According to eyewitnesses, the recovery crane was being driven recklessly and at high speed, swerving dangerously through traffic. It first hit two motorcyclists, before veering toward a nearby car near the Modi Mills flyover close to the Kalka Mor bus stand, narrowly avoiding a collision with the road divider.
Police said the impact threw both bikers onto the road. One of them succumbed to injuries on the spot, while the other was taken to hospital for treatment.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and whether the crane was being operated without proper authorization.
