BAREILLY: A court in Bareilly has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh for murdering a youth who had been harassing his girlfriend and attempting to disrupt their relationship in the Nawabganj area in 2022.

The convict, Karan Valmiki, a local butcher, was in a relationship with a woman named Priya. Trouble began when 23-year-old Jhamman Lal started stalking Priya and allegedly tried to sabotage the couple's relationship by informing her brother. The harassment escalated, leading to a confrontation between Karan and Jhamman.

On August 30, 2022, Jhamman was found murdered, and his brother subsequently filed a complaint against three individuals at the Nawabganj police station. However, during the investigation, police identified Karan as the sole perpetrator of the crime.

Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Rajeshwari Gangwar told TOI, “The court of ADJ Tabrez Ahmed found Karan Valmiki guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1 lakh. The court also directed that the recovered fine be given to the deceased's brother as compensation.”
