PUNE: A 31-year-old construction worker was arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly bludgeoning his relative to death with an LPG cylinder at a workers’ colony of a construction project in Kudale Vasti.

Police from Bhosari MIDC Police Station identified the deceased as Balaji Khandade (29), a native of Nanded district. The accused, Pradeep Gundare (31), a resident of Moshi originally from Latur district, has been booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A police officer said Gundare and Khandade were distant relatives and worked at the same construction site. Khandade was staying in the workers’ colony located at the project site.

According to police, the two got into a dispute over cooking dinner around 11.30 pm on Monday. During the argument, Gundare allegedly picked up an LPG cylinder and attacked Khandade.

The victim sustained severe injuries in the assault and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment.

Police said the accused initially fled the scene but was later traced and arrested. Further investigation is underway.
