An Indian worker was killed after an Iranian strike hit a power facility in Kuwait, causing significant damage to infrastructure, the country’s electricity ministry said on Monday.
According to ministry spokesperson Fatima Abbas Jawhar Hayat, the attack targeted a service building at a power and water desalination plant as part of what she described as Iranian aggression against Kuwait.
The incident comes amid a rapidly intensifying conflict across the Gulf region. Airstrikes on Sunday disrupted electricity supply in parts of Tehran and nearby areas, with Iran reporting outages across the capital, surrounding regions, and Alborz province. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to restore power.
Tensions have escalated further with accusations from a senior Iranian official that the United States is preparing for a ground invasion, even as it continues to signal willingness for negotiations.
In a diplomatic development, Pakistan has offered to host talks between Washington and Tehran in an effort to de-escalate the month-long conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
Meanwhile, Israel is moving to increase its defence spending significantly. Lawmakers are set to vote on the 2026 budget, which proposes raising military expenditure by over $10 billion to exceed $45 billion. Israel has been engaged in military operations against Iran since late February, alongside continued action against Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
US President Donald Trump has previously warned that Iranian energy infrastructure could be targeted if Tehran does not agree to a peace deal, even as negotiation deadlines have been extended multiple times.
Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that any US ground offensive would be met with strong retaliation. His remarks followed the deployment of a US warship carrying an additional 3,500 troops to the region. He accused the US of publicly advocating dialogue while secretly preparing for military action.
The conflict has now expanded into a wider regional crisis. Iran has launched attacks on Gulf nations and taken steps to disrupt traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments. The resulting uncertainty has unsettled energy markets and raised concerns about the global economic outlook.
Calling the situation critical, Ghalibaf urged national unity as tensions continue to rise across the region.
