Annapolis, Maryland: The US Naval Academy was placed on lockdown Thursday evening after reports of threats prompted a large security response.

According to the Navy, one person was injured as Naval Security Forces cleared a building on campus. The individual, whose identity has not been confirmed, was airlifted to a hospital and is in stable condition. Officials have not said whether the person was a midshipman or the nature of the injuries.

The Naval Support Activity Annapolis said there was “no active shooter threat”, but confirmed that Navy security officers and local law enforcement responded to the incident shortly after 5 p.m.

The academy said the lockdown was enforced “out of an abundance of caution.” Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s office later clarified that there was “no credible threat” to the campus.
