BARABANKI: Two devotees lost their lives and 19 others were injured early Monday outside the historic Awshaneshwar Mahadev temple in Barabanki district after an iron pipe and tin shed reportedly became electrically charged.
District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi confirmed the deaths and injuries to TOI, stating that the structure had been erected to provide shelter and convenience to devotees during the ongoing monsoon season.
According to police, the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when the victims sought refuge under the tin shed during rainfall. Initial findings suggest the shed may have become live due to faulty wiring or electrical leakage.
Local authorities and police personnel responded promptly, cordoning off the area and beginning formal procedures.
“The administration has ordered a thorough inquiry, and the local power department has been directed to conduct a detailed inspection of the site,” said Sameer Singh, Circle Officer of Haidergarh.
