NEW DELHI: A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 carrying around 250 people made an emergency diversion to Kolkata on Wednesday after reporting an engine fire while en route from Kathmandu to Istanbul.

The aircraft, registered as TC-LNH and operating as flight TK 727, declared a PAN PAN—an international urgency signal indicating a serious situation requiring immediate assistance but not an imminent threat to life—at 1.38 pm (IST) after reporting a fire in the right engine.

According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the crew later reported that the fire was under control by 1.51 pm and continued towards Kolkata with one engine shut down. Flight tracking data shows the aircraft landed safely at Kolkata at 2.48 pm.

All passengers and crew were reported safe.
