SANTA ANA, Calif.: Three male students from Santa Ana High School were stabbed Wednesday afternoon just outside the campus as school was letting out, authorities said.
One of the victims is in critical condition, while the other two are in stable condition, according to Santa Ana police spokesperson Officer Natalie Garcia. All three were transported to a local hospital.
The incident involved both students and non-students, said school district spokesperson Fermin Leal. Police are searching for at least two suspects, though their identities, connection to the school, and motive remain unclear.
Authorities have not released the ages of the victims.
In response to the violence, the school canceled all after-school programs and athletic events. Crisis counselors will be available to support students on Thursday.
Santa Ana, located about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles, is home to roughly 300,000 residents. Santa Ana High School serves approximately 3,000 students.
