Jalalabad: The Taliban’s crackdown on fibre-optic internet is spreading across Afghanistan, with multiple provinces reporting blackouts following a nationwide order to curb “immorality.”

The ban — the first of its kind since the Taliban regained power in August 2021 — has left government offices, businesses, schools, and households without wi-fi. Mobile internet remains available, though officials said alternatives were being arranged “for necessities.”

Authorities in Balkh province confirmed a shutdown on Tuesday. By Thursday, access had also been cut in Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Nangarhar, and Takhar, according to local officials.
