NEW DELHI: Comedian Kapil Sharma’s restaurant in Surrey, Canada, was targeted in a shooting for the second time in less than a month, with unidentified assailants opening fire early Thursday morning, reports Rajshekhar Jha.
According to local authorities, 9 to 10 shots were fired at Kap’s Café, with at least six bullets striking the building’s walls and windows. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. Police responded swiftly after receiving multiple emergency calls from nearby residents around 4:30 a.m.
Following the attack, a social media post—yet to be verified—surfaced, in which a man identifying himself as Goldy Dhillon, an associate of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar, claimed responsibility. The post alleged that the gang had attempted to contact Sharma, and after receiving no response, decided to "take action." It also issued a veiled threat, warning that their next target could be in Mumbai.
Indian security agencies are currently investigating the authenticity of the post and assessing any credible threats linked to it.
This is the second attack on the café in recent weeks. On July 9, a gunman—reportedly wearing a body camera to record the incident—opened fire on the same establishment. That shooting was later claimed by Germany-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi.
Authorities in both Canada and India are closely monitoring developments, given the apparent involvement of organized criminal and extremist groups in the ongoing attacks.
