NEW DELHI: Pakistani forces resumed unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) for the seventh consecutive day, the Indian Army reported on Thursday, confirming that Indian troops responded in a measured manner to the ceasefire violation.
"Between the night of April 30 and May 1, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC in the areas opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir. Our forces retaliated appropriately," Indian Army officials told news agency ANI.
The ongoing ceasefire violation comes despite a discussion between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan on Wednesday, where India raised concerns over the continuous unprovoked attacks by Pakistan.
During the call, the Indian DGMO reportedly cautioned his Pakistani counterpart against further violations along the LoC and the International Border.
On April 22, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 male tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India has pledged to track down and bring the attackers to justice.
In response to the ongoing threat of cross-border terrorism, India has taken several steps, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and reducing the size of its diplomatic mission in Islamabad. India has also revoked visas of Pakistani nationals living in India and sent them back to Pakistan.
The government has granted the armed forces full operational autonomy to determine the response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
