Bengaluru: A 29-year-old mason allegedly stabbed his wife to death before taking his own life in their rented flat on Ullal Main Road on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Dharmaseelan Ramesh (29), originally from Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu, and his wife Manju P (27), a nurse from Kallakurchi district.
Police said Dharmaseelan, who had been working in Dubai, returned to India a month ago. Manju had been living in Bengaluru with her father, Periyaswamy, also a mason, for the past year and a half. She had rented a third-floor flat where the incident occurred.
According to police, Dharmaseelan informed his father-in-law last Thursday that he would stay with Manju and seek work in Bengaluru. On Sunday evening, Periyaswamy returned from Tumakuru and, finding the door locked, used a spare key to enter with his nephew. Inside, they discovered Manju lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds, while Dharmaseelan was found hanging next to her body.
A senior police officer said Manju had sustained around 45 stab injuries, mostly on her neck and upper body. “Her throat was slit, and she appears to have been stabbed repeatedly, even after her death,” the officer said.
Preliminary inquiries suggest marital discord and suspicion of infidelity may have led to the crime. The couple, married in September 2022, did not have children.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and police are investigating further.
