CHENNAI: A 40-year-old man suffered grievous injuries after a government bus rammed his two-wheeler near the Malrosapuram signal on Tuesday. The victim, Kannan, a van driver from Maraimalai Nagar, was travelling to work from Singaperimal when the accident occurred.
According to police, Kannan had stopped his two-wheeler on the roadside to answer a phone call. Moments later, a government bus hit him, dragging him beneath its rear wheels and crushing his legs.
He was immediately rushed to Chengalpet Government Hospital, where doctors are treating him for serious injuries.
The accident led to traffic congestion on the Chennai–Trichy National Highway as commuters and onlookers gathered at the scene. Enraged bystanders reportedly detained and assaulted the bus driver before informing the police.
The Tambaram Traffic Investigation Wing has registered a case in connection with the incident and is conducting further investigations.
