JAMMU: An 11-year-old girl was killed on Thursday after being struck by a falling stone during a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall in a remote village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

Police identified the victim as Afiya Kousar, a resident of Chak Bonalla in Mendhar tehsil. She died on the spot. Authorities have registered a case in connection with the incident.

This tragedy echoes a similar incident from May last year, when 13-year-old Shazia Akhter from Dandote village in Rajouri district lost her life after being hit by a rolling boulder while walking through a landslide-prone area.
