NEW DELHI: The Army on Thursday said two terrorists were gunned down while attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The counter-infiltration operation, codenamed Naushera Nar IV, is being conducted jointly by the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP).

“Acting on JKP intelligence inputs of a likely infiltration, troops launched a joint operation in Gurez. Alert soldiers detected suspicious movement and, when challenged, the intruders opened fire. Troops retaliated, killing two terrorists,” the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X.

The operation is still underway.

This is the third such attempt along the LoC this month. On Monday, security forces foiled an infiltration bid in Uri sector, while on August 13 a soldier lost his life during a similar encounter in the same area.
