INDORE/NEW DELHI: About 25 members of the transgender community were admitted to Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH) in Indore on Wednesday night after allegedly consuming phenyl, hospital authorities confirmed.

Dr. Basant Kumar Ningwal, superintendent-in-charge of MYH, told PTI, “Around 25 people from the transgender community have been admitted to our hospital. They have claimed to have consumed phenyl together, but this cannot be immediately confirmed.”

He further said that all the individuals are under observation and none are in critical condition.

Police and health officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether the substance consumption was intentional or accidental, and what may have led to the collective act.
