NEW DELHI: India and Russia on Friday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand trade in the agricultural sector, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing strategic ties in food and farm-related areas.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture said that both sides discussed key areas of collaboration, with a strong focus on boosting agricultural trade. Minister Chouhan highlighted the importance of international cooperation in ensuring farmer welfare and national food security.

According to the ministry, Patrushev expressed Russia’s strong interest in expanding agricultural ties with India and proposed formalising the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The move is part of a broader effort to diversify trade between the two countries and deepen engagement in sectors critical to long-term economic and food sustainability.
