AHMEDABAD: A 40-year-old man was arrested in Jamalpur after allegedly making a hoax call about a murder, police said on Saturday.

Gaikwad Haveli police said the control room received a message on Friday claiming, “My brother was murdered at Jamalpur Medani Wad in Gaikwad Haveli area.” Officers rushed to the spot but found no evidence of such an incident.

The call was traced to Imran Pathan, a resident near Machhipir Dargah in Jamalpur. Police booked him under sections 217 (false information to mislead a public servant) and 248(A) (false charge with intent to injure) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

Authorities urged citizens to avoid false alarms, stressing that misleading calls waste resources and could delay responses to real emergencies.
