JAMMU: A fierce gun battle broke out on Wednesday evening between security forces and terrorists in the Chatroo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. Officials said intermittent firing continued late into the night, with two to three Jaish-e-Mohammed militants believed to be trapped.
“A joint team comprising the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF launched a search operation in Kuchal (Chatroo) based on intelligence about terrorist movement. When the forces approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, leading to an encounter,” an official source said.
Additional reinforcements were deployed to strengthen the cordon and block any escape routes, authorities added.
The Army’s Nagrota-based White Knight Corps confirmed on X that “operations are ongoing.”
