AHMEDABAD: Mustakim Bhathiara, a 38-year-old resident of Mohammadali Chowk in Kapadvanj, was executed in Kuwait on April 28 after being convicted of murdering his employer in 2019. His body was flown to Ahmedabad and laid to rest in Kapadvanj on Wednesday in accordance with Islamic rites.

Mustakim had worked as a cook in the Gulf region for over a decade, beginning his career in Dubai, later moving to Bahrain, and spending the last seven years in Kuwait.

The incident that led to his conviction occurred four years ago following a dispute with his employer, Rehana Khan. Reports suggest the altercation escalated into violence, culminating in Mustakim fatally stabbing her. He was subsequently arrested and, in 2021, sentenced to death by a Kuwaiti court.

The Indian embassy informed his family of the execution shortly after it was carried out.
