Five people were shot and wounded Tuesday evening at the Brass Mill Center mall in Waterbury, Connecticut, according to local authorities.
Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo said officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the mall around 4:40 p.m. The victims were transported to nearby hospitals, though the severity of their injuries has not been disclosed.
“This was not a random act of violence,” Spagnolo said during a press briefing. He stated that the shooting appears to have stemmed from a dispute and that the suspect, armed with a semiautomatic pistol, is believed to have known the victims.
As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made. However, police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public. “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the broader community,” Spagnolo added.
