CHENNAI: A 28-year-old man from Nellore lost his left arm after falling from a moving train near Basin Bridge on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Arun Kumar, was reportedly intoxicated and travelling on the footboard of a crowded unreserved coach on the Dhanbad Express when the incident occurred.

According to police, the accident took place between Basin Bridge and Korukkupet stations. Arun lost his balance and fell onto the tracks, resulting in his arm being severed. Railway staff, alerted by passengers, immediately stopped the train and rushed him to Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital, where his condition remains critical.

Investigators confirmed that Arun was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fall.

This incident adds to a growing list of footboard-related accidents in the area. In a similar case on March 23 last year, a man named Abdul Kareem from Vaniyambadi lost a leg and an arm after falling from a train during a robbery attempt by a 15-year-old boy, who was later placed in a juvenile observation home.

Railway authorities have once again urged commuters to avoid footboard travel, particularly in overcrowded coaches, warning that such practices pose serious risks to life and safety.
