NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old newlywed woman is battling for her life on a ventilator after being stabbed allegedly by a stalker in northeast Delhi’s New Mustafabad. Police arrested the 24-year-old accused within hours of the attack and recovered the weapon.
The woman, married just 10 days ago, had returned to her parental home for post-wedding rituals and was preparing to rejoin her husband in Ashok Vihar. According to her family, the accused had been stalking her for the past three to four months and was opposed to the marriage.
The incident occurred near Mangal Bazaar Road on Thursday evening. Police said the victim suffered grave injuries to her kidneys and intestines and was admitted to GTB Hospital in critical condition. A case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered.
The victim’s elder brother said she was excited about starting her new life and had been shopping for her marital home with her sister-in-law just before the attack. “She wanted to make her new home beautiful. Then this happened,” he said.
He added that his sister-in-law witnessed the assault. “The attacker was waiting outside our street. He stabbed her, twisted the knife, and fled. A passerby on a bike rushed her to hospital.”
