NEW DELHI: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sub-inspector at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport saved a passenger’s life after he collapsed in the terminal’s Pre-SHA area on September 1.

The passenger, identified as Mohammad Mokhtar Alam, who was scheduled to fly to Gaya, suddenly fell unconscious. Sub-Inspector Verendra Singh immediately rushed to his aid and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), reviving him before medical staff arrived.

A video of the incident, which went viral, shows Singh performing CPR swiftly and effectively. Doctors at the airport later stabilised Alam and referred him to a hospital for further treatment.

The CISF praised Singh’s “exemplary alertness and presence of mind” in a statement.

In a separate case, a mid-air emergency on a Bhubaneswar–Jaipur flight was averted when Dr. Jyotirmaya Nayak, a surgeon from SCB Medical College, performed CPR on an elderly woman who collapsed onboard. The passenger was stabilised before landing in Delhi and later shifted to a medical facility.

Both incidents underscore the lifesaving importance of immediate CPR and trained responders in public spaces.
