BENGALURU: A young nursing student’s overnight stay at a family friend’s home turned violent when she was attacked with a machete by the household’s domestic help.
The accused, 45-year-old G Lalita, worked for retired government employees Venugopal and Sarojamma in Malleswaram’s Basappa Garden. On Saturday night, their family friend, P Sushmita, dropped in for dinner and decided to stay over. During the evening, Sushmita criticised Lalita’s work, prompting the latter to retort that she didn’t need “to be taught by a small girl.”
At around 1am, Lalita allegedly entered Sushmita’s fourth-floor bedroom and struck her face and shoulder with a machete. The couple, asleep on the ground floor, did not hear her cries. Sushmita regained consciousness at 3am and alerted Sarojamma.
Lalita then left the house, claiming she was going to a ceremony in Kolar, but police traced and arrested her in her village later that day. Sushmita was hospitalised, and Lalita has been booked for attempted murder.
