BENGALURU: In a second dowry-related tragedy within a week, Bengaluru police have arrested a private company employee on charges of abetting the suicide of his wife, who was found dead at their home in Bagalagunte on Sunday.
The victim, N Poojashri, originally from Bhadravati in Shivamogga district, had been married to J Nandish for three years and is survived by him and their two-year-old daughter. Police said she had repeatedly complained of harassment by her husband and mother-in-law over dowry demands and alleged physical abuse after confronting Nandish about his relationship with another woman.
Investigators said Poojashri hanged herself while her husband and daughter were away. Following a complaint from her mother, police booked Nandish, his mother Shantamma, and three others for dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.
Earlier case in tech hub The case comes just days after P Shilpa, a 27-year-old pregnant software engineer, was found hanging in her BTM Layout residence. Shilpa’s mother accused her husband Praveen and his mother Shantavva of persistent dowry harassment.
Praveen, once employed at a leading software firm in Whitefield, had lost his job last year and had been selling pani-puri in BTM Layout. Both he and his mother have been detained.
