NEW DELHI: A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir early Monday morning at around 5.35 am. According to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km, with its epicentre located in the Pattan area.

The tremors were felt across parts of India and Pakistan, causing brief panic among residents in the region. The NCS stated that the epicentral zone was identified using reference points near Gulmarg and west of Srinagar.

The quake’s location was also described as approximately 84 km west of Pahalgam and about 164 km west-southwest of Kargil, highlighting its impact across the Kashmir Valley and surrounding high-altitude areas.

Videos circulating on social media showed people experiencing a sudden jolt in the early hours of Monday, with tremors lasting for nearly 30 seconds. Some clips also captured the seismic sound waves at the moment the earthquake struck.
